What you'll get from this Guide

This Guide is focused on showing how to research on a particular song (or songs) , an artist and the social-cultural background and other issues in popular music. Such topics include:

  • A song from Billboard Hot 100 charts
  • A song from the early part of an artist’s career, and then a different song from a later period by the same artist.
  • A song that represents the technological or promotional possibilities.
  • Digital technology and digital media (e.g. iTunes, YouTube, etc.)
  • Record labels
  • Disco and influence on hip-hop, contemporary electronic dance music
  • Awards shows and charts e.g. Grammys and Billboard Hot 100
